Astrid Roman – Miami FL.
Astrid’s aim as a yoga teacher is to become an assistant to practitioners so they can see that yoga is a great vehicle for healing, not only physically, but mentally and spiritually as well. For Astrid, yoga is a lifelong practice. She started practicing different styles of yoga 15 years ago in Caracas, Venezuela, then in Thailand, Panama and Indonesia. She began her practice at Skanda Studio in 2015 intermittently and inspired by Skanda teachers, friends and other practitioners who have transformed their lives through the Skanda philosophy, she completed the 200 hours Skanda Yoga Teacher Training at the beginning of the year (2018).
Yoga has changed they way Astrid sees the world. With a combination of vipassana meditation and Skanda Yoga, her practice is based on observing the breath and the thoughts, letting these thoughts pass by without judgement, and listening what her body has to say. Sometimes the instruction is to slow down, sometimes to move faster, and that is just perfect, she does not force it, she does not get frustrated. In her own words: “I feel encouraged to return to the mat day after day to listen what my practice has to tell me”.
Astrid is a hospital clown in her free time, she loves to make people laugh and bring kindness and humor on and off the mat. She also is the director of a non profit that brings meditation, yoga, art, environmental awareness, conscious nutrition and music to public schools and children who are at risk.
